This exhibit focuses on clay works of current ceramic artists who were influenced by thirteen seminal artists from the '50s and '60s. Robert Arneson, Carlton Ball, Shoji Hamada,Vivika & Otto Heino, Bernard Leach, James Lovera, Glenn Lukens, Gertrud & Otto Natzler,Richard Shaw, Paul Soldner, Toshiko Takaezu, Peter Voulkos, and Marguerite Wildenhain, artists who introduced thought and design in sculpture and functional ware that has continued through generations of teachers and students. One work by each of these ground breaking artists will be featured in the show, along with pieces by or graphic representations of the work of many other important artists of the period.
Jurors will be looking for how these influences continue to show in current work, from subtle to obvious connections. Pieces will be selected and displayed alongside the influential works to illustrate their association. Sixty to eighty juried pieces will be accepted for the show, which will be mounted on fine furniture, as it might be in the home of a collector who appreciates craftsmanship.
