I thought Color Field was the only “radically noncommercial work” ?

Zittel looks to this as a way for artists to make money when their work doesn’t. “I tell all my students to make radically noncommercial work,” Zittel explained. “How can I expect them to survive?”

How does “radically noncommercial” work look like in the field of art? Appears to be a false horizon in a commercial system, on a market.
Maybe a knockout call.

What do museums do with all those Olitskis and Poonses? It must cost a fortune to store them in high-end real estate. Do they bother maintaining them?

Maybe they sell them downmarket?

One hopes they have the wit to store them out in the low-rent hinterlands, awaiting the inevitable non-ronic return of AbEx. “Neo-post-painterly” won't be far behind.

Well I guess André Emmerich got his money while the getting was good. And the artists get nothing from after-market sales anyway, so they lost little. Most of them have their teaching gigs locked in.

And those oil billionaires for whom Barbara Rose expressed sympathy for having bought color field paintings can afford to roll them up until retrochic revives the taste for them.

‘retrochic’ is just an illusion, for serious collectors the fashion system is generally not that important. I think such terms are made up to label any short living “lifestyle”.

Well the censorship can only last so long but as one of the Artforum critics commented “the Work is just to good” but dont get to depressed it wont happen to fast but then again Im seeing signs

OK, let's put it the other way round: ‘radically noncommercial work’ is a good point to start compromising with the art (and fashion) market system because some day in the development of artists in general there will be a point where no more compromise is possible with the name developed at that point and this will be the next level to approach.
I truly think I already posted this before.

The whole “art star/teacher” thing just doesn't appeal to me estheticly. Who wants to be both the golden goose and the caged bird?

Of course, if I wanted to “leave” something to Israel...I know exactly what it would be!

All I wanted was a book signing...course, even that might be TOO MUCH...for an SOB.

Go get a hotdog, Slobber.
